Artimis Fowl

March3

Artemis Fowl, by Kayvon

Artemis Fowl and his man servant or Butler walk into a dark ally where a man has informed them an alcoholic sprite lives.   He asks her for a book.  She refuses to tell him anything until he gives her alcohol.  He complies and he asks her again for the book and she says no.  Then he tells her what was really in the bottle which is already empty.  He has poisoned her and he has the antidote, but he will not give it to her unless she lets him see the book for 30 minutes.  He takes digital photos of the book until each photo is stored in the camera’s memory.  He goes home and tries to decode each page, but it is becoming more and more difficult until he has a breakthrough.  Then the next step is to capture a fairy…

I think this book is very exiting, and filled with the fun world of Holly Short of the LEPrecon divisions capture and realese.  You also get to explore the world of a bankrupt billionaire. And for those of you who like series: good news this book is a part of a series.

13 Gifts

March2
13 Gifts is about a girl named Tara. She moves to Willow Falls because she gets suspended from school for the last 2 weeks of school. She goes to live with her Aunt, Uncle, and her super smart cousin, Emily Saint Claire. Angelina sends Tara on a mission to find objects that have been lost for many years. How will Tara, Emily, and her friends find the ALL the objects before her birthday in July; in just TWO weeks?!?! Will they find the objects?!?! Read 13 Gifts to find out! 😀 🙂 😀 🙂
I really enjoyed 11 Birthdays and didn’t know that Wendy Mass had started writing a lot of books taking place in Willow Falls. I picked up this book one day in Library and started reading it. I liked hearing about Angelina, Amanda, Leo, and a lot of other characters from 11 Birthdays throughout the book. I didn’t realize that Angelina, Amanda, and Leo were all characters from 11 Birthdays until the middle of the book! 🙁

It is a great sad, dangerous, romance book about one spy and two of her greatest friends who are also spies. Oh, and there is one hot boy named Josh. Cammie [the spy] meets Josh on a mission and he is love at first sight. How will their love work out?  I love this book because it is very exciting. I praise Ally Carter and her book.

The Hunger Games

February28

I liked the Hunger Games because ones you get in the games, you are not going to stop reading. It is scary, funny, and suspenseful. I like the way the whole game is set up and how there are so many realistic details. I can imagine the seam, hob, even the woods Katniss hunts in.  I loved every thing about it.  You’re not reading the book, you’re living the book. I can’t wait to read Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

Underdogs

February28

I would give my book 5 stars. My book was really interesting, and  I could not stop reading it.  This book was the perfect book about team effort. You can’t win alone- you have to use teamwork. I read the book 2 hours every night. This is hands down the best book I have ever read.

Genius Files

February27

The Genius Files is a good book about 2 kids who go across country and risk their lives trying to figure out secret messages. Also they are often watching people help them and then eventually die. The whole time this is happening, they are keeping this a secret from there parents.

In this book the 2 kids jump off a cliff, get trapped in their burning school basement, get chased across country by lunatics, and get left in quicksand to die and still come out alive.

This book is a good book because it is an active adventurous book, and there is never a part in the book where the twins aren’t risking their lives. This book is not a book that could be a series book, because the twins couldn’t stay alive forever. In this book there is a lot of excitement and that is what makes the reader want to keep on listening to/reading the book.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

February27

By Jules Verne

This is a great book because it is thrilling, violent, and slightly disturbing. You will surely take this book with you everywhere, just like I did. It is about an eccentric professor that brings home a book, and in it is a piece of paper that has to be decoded. Once you find out what it says, the temptation to go on the journey to Iceland, up the mountain Sneffels, and into the crater, deeper and deeper into the center of the Earth, is unbelievable. Unfortunately, this expedition is so dangerous, amazing, terrifying, and stupid that it is suicide to undertake it. But sadly, Uncle Lidenbrock is fine with something this dangerous, as long as he makes the history books. So he drags along his completely unadventurous nephew along with him, along with lots of supplies and a trusty guide. But will this be enough to overcome the most dangerous journey ever known by mankind?

War Horse

February27

War Horse is about a boy and a horse’s friendship and World War I. Joey the horse is a farm horse growing a great bond with a boy named Albert who works on the farm. After a few years they know each other, but then they have to sell Joey to the army. Read the book to find out more about Joey’s adventure fighting the Germans in World War I and the friends he makes along the way.

War Horse is an intense book with lots of action and drama. It is by far the best book I have ever read. The author writes it in a way that you know exactly where the scene is and exactly what is going on. It has some similarities to the Hunger Games with action and intensity.

The Hunger Games

February27

Katniss worries about herself on reaping day because she has entered her name 20 times and her sister has only entered her name once. But then suddenly they read Primrose Everdeen. Katniss was shocked and couldn’t let her go so she takes her spot. Now Katniss must now fight for her life against strong opponents who want to kill her. This book was exciting, addicting, and suspenseful. If you like this book, you should read Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

The Invention Of Hugo Carbet

February27

In the book The Invention Of Hugo Carbet is about a boy named Hugo who fixes clocks for a living. His dad gives him an auto-man that will change his life forever. He finds a girl named Isbelle who has the heart shaped key he needs to get his auto-man to work. Once the auto-man starts to work it draws, but it draws the work of Georges meliis’s work, Isabelle’s godfather. Now she thinks Hugo stole the auto-man and many other things. How will Hugo earn her trust back and will their friendship end already?

I like the book because this book is like watching a movie. All of the pictures make sense with the words but without the pictures the story would not make sense at all. Also, the book has great plot and the characters seemed real. There was also mystery throughout the book and questions to answer. I also liked how Geoges Meliis is an actual movie maker and how there is history in the book. But there is also fiction in the book because magicians are not real and Hugo Cabret is not an actual person. If you have read this book, I recommend the book Wonder Struck.

Catching Fire

February27

The book is the secound book of series. I like the book becuse it is exciting, sad, and suspenseful. Thebook is also good becuase it has little action, a little suspense, and it is a little bit shocking too; I like that combanation. If you like it, you would like the book the Way of the Sword or the Lighting Thief (if you had not read it). The book is about Katniss and Peeta going back into the Hunger Games agian becuse of the third Quarter Quell and Kttniss starts another rebellion agaisnt the Capital.

Alex Rider: Crocodile Tears

February27

My book is about a boy named Alex Rider who is a teenage spy. This is his eighth mission. In this book Alex goes to Scotland and Kenya, but when he gets to Kenya, it isn’t for vacation. It is because he was kidnapped by a mad man named McCain. Once again Alex has to save the world. I really liked this book because it is exciting and has lots of suspense. Crocodiles Tears reminds me of all the other Alex Rider books.

Alex Rider Storm Breaker

February27

Alex Rider is a fourteen year old boy who becomes a spy for a secret spy organization. The book is set in London in the 20th or 21st century. Alex Rider was a very good book because the main character, Alex, has many adventures in the story. The main bad guy Sayle, has created a computer that has some kind of poison in the computers. Alex’s mission is to find out the secret of the storm breakers and decontaminate them. This is the first mission out of 10 missions. This book was written by Anthony Horowitz. This book is not really like any other series; if you like adventure, you would like this book.

Chasing Redbird

February27

Chasing Redbird is about a thirteen year old girl creating an adventure.

Zinnia Taylor is a thirteen year old girl who lives near Bybanks, Kentucky.  She grows up in a house with six siblings and two parents. A neighboring house holds Zinnia’s Uncle. It used to hold her aunt, cousin, and uncle. but after a horrible accident two of the members have died.

So after losing two of her closest relatives, Zinny discovers an uncovered trail behind her Aunt’s house. She has an idea of uncovering the trail but that would take a lot of time.  She decided that she would uncover the trail and outline the path with Zinnias.

On the way Zinny experiences many different situations but you have to read the book to see what happens!

The White Giraffe

February26

Martine is a ordinary girl until one night in England that changed her life.  Martine Allen had a unusual night: having dinner, going to bed, etc., but that night Martine was having a dream when it started to get hotter and hotter. Then she saw the smoke and fire and yelled “fire, fire!” but no one heard. Martine tied all of her sheets together and climbed out the window. She was told that her mother and farther had died.  Later on in the book, she moves to Africa with her grandmother. A couple of days later, there was a storm and then a flash of lightning Martine thought she saw the white giraffe. Had she or hadn’t she? I like this book because it is a little bit sad, it is taken place outside mostly, and it is fiction. I also like this because one of the main parts of the story is about a giraffe.

ALEX RIDER: SCORPIA RISING

February25

Alex Rider is a teenager who has saved the world from evil countless times, but this  mission is his most dangerous mission to date! He must stop SCORPIA, a deadly terrorism association, from killing the American Secretary of State! If he fails, SCORPIA would then kill him and people would think that it was Alex who killed the Secretary of State! He can’t fail now!

I like this book because it is action-packed and it is violent, but not too violent. It is also quite sad.

Eragon

February25

Eragon is an action packed adventure about Eragon, the only dragon rider. It takes place in a land full of danger and magic, called Alagaesia. The Empire finds out that Eragon has one of the only dragon eggs. They send out the Ra’zac to kill Eragon and his newly hatched dragon. They don’t kill the dragon, but they burn down Eragon’s house and kill his uncle. Eragon then sets out with the old storyteller, Brom and his dragon named Saphira, to kill the Ra’zac. Little does Eragon know of the dangers ahead of him.

P.S. This book is violent at many parts, but it’s not too violent.

This book reminds me of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. If you like adventure books like Percy Jackson, you’ll like Eragon. This book has a great plot and is very exciting. You should read Eragon.

Every Soul a Star

February25

Every Soul a Star is a really good book by Wendy Mass. It is about 3 kids named Jack, Ally, and Bree. Jack and Bree come to the Moon Shadow Campground (which Ally’s parents currently run) to see a total solar eclipse. After the eclipse,  Ally and her family are moving to the City. Bree and her family are going to run the campground when Ally’s family leaves. Jack came to the campground because he failed science the previous year in school. His science teacher, Mr. Silver, said he could come there instead of summer school, but he has to write a paper about his experiences there.

I really enjoyed this book! I probably wanted to read it most in the beginning because it was by Wendy Mass. After you read this book, I would recommend any other books by Wendy Mass!

←So go this way or that way to go find this book so you can read it 😀

The Hunger Games Series: Caching Fire

February25

In Caching Fire, Katniss finds out she is in the Hunger Games again. She is furious with the capital. Could this really be the thing they wrote down for the 75th Hunger games 75 years ago, or is it just President Snow mad at her from the berry indecent? For the 75th Hunger Games every district will give a boy and a girl victor, and that means Katniss has to go in the games again because she is the only girl victor in district twelve. She goes on the train that will take her to the capital for all the prep. For her interview she will were the wedding dress that was chosen for her wedding with Peeta. She does not know one thing: when she twirls and lifts her arms up the dress will catch on fire, making it turn into a beautiful mocking jay costume. This has bad consequences for her stylist, Cinna. After she sees this, she rises up into the arena and sees that there is a lot of water. She thinks to herself: “this is no place for the girl on fire.”

I liked this book because it had a lot action and exciting moments that I thought would never happen. I liked the first book, The Hunger Games and this book the same, although they were so much different. I also like how in this book the thing they have to worry about hurting them is the different obstacles in the arena that you could be in at the wrong time, not the people. If you like the Percy Jackson series, you would like this book if you don’t mind a little more action. You might think that the Hunger Games series has to much death, but the author does not describe the deaths like it was all bloody and gross etc. It’s just like “and I sent a arrow through him.” If you like action, I think you would really like this book.

The Hunger Games

February25

Well, most people don’t believe me when I say this is not a regular book. What makes it an irregular book is that it suits everyone’s fancy. Not a lot of books appeal to everyone. It’s full of action, danger, romance, suspense, tragedy, design, love, scariness and many other adjectives that I can’t think of.  It’s perfect for reading under the covers in your bed, or reading it out loud with friends. It goes at just the right pace, has a cliffhanger at the end of each chapter, is for readers and non-readers, has a plot that will never make you never put the book down, has great characters, and raises the bar of awesomeness. It is for people of all ages and trust your friends when they say “you’ve got to read The Hunger Games; it is the best book ever!” Read the Hunger Games and have the book experience of your life!

The Last Dragon is a book written by Silvanna De Mari, an Italian women who live with her family and dog. This book was originally Italian, but as it became more popular, it was translated into eighteen different languages, including English.

SENT

February25

Two of the main characters, Chip and Alex, go back in time. But in the 15th century, they are whole different people. Chip is actually Edward the 5th, king of England and Alex is his brother Richard, Duke of York. Then Chip figures out that someone is trying to kill him. He finds out that the person trying to kill him is his uncle, Richard of Gloucester! Even though they aren’t supposed to, Jonah and Katherine go back in time, too. But they don’t become different people like Chip and Alex. Jonah and Katherine try to get Chip and Alex (and themselves) out of the 15th century and back home without Chip getting murdered. Will they ever get back home!?! Read the book Sent to find out.

I like the book Sent because it’s exiting. It’s one of those books that you just can’t put down once you start it. Parts of it are a little scary but overall it’s a good book.

39 Clues Book 2: One False Note

February25

I think the 39 Clues Book is very fun to read! The chapters end in suspense, making you want to read more, and I think this book is very well written. I think its cool and interesting how, to find the second clue, you have to learn Mozart’s history. The opponents are family, and they will lie or kill to get the second clue. I think if you like this book you should read the next, because there’s a whole series of about 11 books. You may be thinking, 1 or 2 clues found in a book is nothing, but there’s actually more to it. Like the man in black, a character that follows Dan and Amy around (Dan and Amy are the main characters), but you’ll have to read the book to find out more about him and all the characters!

Now Marty tries to bribe Wolfe into taking them to the Congo. He doesn’t like the idea, and neither does Grace. Their uncle decides not to take them. Because of that, Wolfe arranges an airplane ride for him and Laurel to go to the Congo, and the twins back to boarding school in Switzerland. During the plane ride, Wolfe’s monkey, Bo, got out of her cage. While they are trying the get her back in her cage, they are ejected with the supplies for Wolfe and Laurel;s trip. Now they have to wait for their rescue. Will they be able to survive in the jungle while they wait for their rescue? Read Cryptid Hunters to find out.

I like this book because it is a really interesting adventure book. There is a sequel to this book called Tentacles. It is like the first one, but focused on the Cryptid, the giant squid. I recommend this book because it is a fun book to read if you’re looking for an exiting adventure.

The Secret Garden

February25

Mary likes no one until she moves to England to live with her uncle. Then she learns to like her maid, a boy named Dickon, and- cough cough, well that is a secret, just like the garden!

Quote from Mary: “The secret must be kept.”

I like this book because of it’s way of turning  reality to fantasy. With a change in characters and the way it can make you think of things more in a magical way, I really loved the story.

Woodsong

April7

CAUTION: if you get queasy easily, don’t read this. If you like a book that is thrilling, this is a great book for you. This book is about a man and his dog sled team entering a race across Alaska. This man is new to sled racing and does not know what to expect. He experiences hallucinations, dogs getting overtired, and beautiful views. Have you ever heard of dogs with personalities? Well you hear about them here. These amazing dogs have personalities and are very enthusiastic about running the Iditarod. We liked this book because of the action and the adventure. The thing is, this changed our perspective about dog sled racing. It made us really appreciate dog sled mushers and the dogs that make the sled move.

Number the Stars

April7

This is an autobiography about a 10 year old girl named Annemarie Johansen. Her best friend is Ellen Rosen. Ellen is a Jew, but Annemarie isn’t. They live in Copenhagen, Denmark during the Nazi’s rampage. The Johansens must protect the Rosens and help them get to Sweden. They come up with many tricks to fool the Nazi’s: for example they took a handkerchief and put the Priest’s blood and cocaine and wrapped it up. The dogs would smell the blood, and then they would smell the cocaine and that would temporarily destroyed their sense of smell. Annemarie sacrificed herself for her friends. We liked the book because it showed us how hard life was at that time of the Nazi’s. It also was interesting how sneaky the people were, and how they got the Jews to safety. Everyone during this time had to believe in themselves, and believe in others.

Artemis Fowl:The Arctic Incident

May28

This book by Eoin Colfer is about a boy who goes to a boarding school. He gets a message that someone very close to him has been captured by the Russian Mafia. The person that was captured was Artemis Fowl’s father. In order to rescue his father, Artemis would have to join forces with his nemesis, Captain Holly Short, who was with the LEPrecon police. I like this book because it has a lot of action in it and I like action and adventure books.

Sea of Monsters

May28

The Sea of Monsters is an amazing sequel to the Lightning Thief; after these two books there are Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian.  The Sea of Monsters is about Percy Jackson, a demi-god who goes on adventures with his two friends, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood. In this book they are trying to get the Golden Fleece, a powerful healer. Their friend Thalia was turned into a pine tree that protects the border of Camp Half-Blood (a demi-god training camp and a safe place to stay away from monsters) and she is slowly dying, which lets monsters get into Camp Half-Blood.  The amazing Author is Rick Riordan who lives in San Antonio, TX. I rate this book a 4/5. Its most definitely the best book in the series!!!!

Holes was a great book. Actually, it is one of my favorite books. It has adventure, action, and a real life situation. It is about a boy Stanely Yelnats (if you didn’t notice Yelnats is Stanely backwards). One reason I liked this book is because it is funny, adventures, and has action in the book. If I had to rate this book 1-100 I would give it 100 it was one of the best books I ever read.

May28

This book is about a pig and his friend, a spider named Charlotte. The pig was to small for its age so the farmer was going to kill him. Charlotte was a good friend to this pig and put words on her web about the pig. Stargirl!

May28

One great book that I have read this year is Stargirl! It is now one of my favorite books. The author is Jerry Spinelli. It is about a girl named Stargirl who has been homeschooled basically all her life. She tries to go to a normal school, which is hard because she isn’t a normal girl. She does a lot of things you wouldn’t think a regular girl would do, but that is what makes it her. She is a very hard girl to describe but that is why I like her! There is a sequel to this book called Love, Stargirl. I hope you choose to read one of them! 😀

Life As We Knew It!

May26

Life As We Knew It is a GREAT book! It’s funny and tells a fiction story about how a family pushes through hard times and stays together.

In this book, a girl named Miranda who lives with her mom, her brother Mark, and her brother Johnny, has to keep her family together when it starts to crumble. A recent divorce between her parents is the first blow. Then, a meteor hits the moon, knocking it closer in orbit to Earth. That affects the tides and Earth and suddenly, tsunamis swallow New York, volcanoes explode wildly, grocery stores run out of food, gas costs over 10 dollars, temperatures drop below freezing in the middle of summer and much more happens. Miranda realizes that in times like this, she needs her family most. Even when she has a quarrelsome mom, a father-like older brother, and a slightly clueless younger brother, she realizes that her family is better off than most others. On Miranda’s journey, the house almost catches on fire, a deadly flu disease gets Miranda’s family, and her stepmom has a baby. In the end though, Miranda realizes that everything will be all right, if she has her family with her!

Soul Surfer

May26

This book is very well written because it feels like the author is talking to you, the reader. This book is about Bethany Hamilton and she wrote it herself. This book takes place in Hawaii and it is about her unbelievable recovery from a shark attack. Her family was also unbelievable with all the support they gave her and all the fund-risers they had to pay for her surgeries. I would defiantly give this book a 5 star rating because I love autobiographies and this was a great one, and it was also very well written. This book is also becoming a movie soon, but I would definitely recommend you to read the book first.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

May26

If you want a book that is hilariously silly, then read Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Gregory, a lonely and friendly kid, has to face the most bizarre challenges. His ‘best friend’ Rowley is very silly and always gets the best of things even though he doesn’t do everything right. Rodrick is Greg’s ignorant brother and always gets Gregory in trouble. Manny is the worst of all since he is protected by the parents so much. He always gets the attention even if he does something most would punish a child for. Through school and everything Greg faces, it jumbles up and forms into a mess. This book will make you laugh and I recommend it for people who have a sense of humor. From 1-10, it is my opinion that the book is an 8.

I like this book because it’s funny, loving, and is great writing. If I had to give this book a rating I would rate it a 4 out of 5 because at times its very sad but others and most of the time it’s a very good book. This book does not have any other series to it sadly.

The Boy Who Lost His Face

I really liked this book because it was funny, and it was something that could really happen, even though the story is made up. David Ballinger is the main character of the book; he steals an old lady’s cane and now he believes he is cursed. If I had to rate this book 1-10 I would give it 10. It has a great story plot, great characters, and character traits.

GONE.

May26

GONE.

Everyone except for the young has disappeared. Once you turn 15 you disappear in the blink of an eye. The phones, internet, and TV are gone too. Everything is changing. Ducks are growing talons, snakes can fly, and cats can teleport. The children are changing too. They are able to do extraordinary things. Like shoot melted metal out of their hands or suspend gravity in an area. Hunger threatens, bullies rule, and war is near. Sam, Quinn, Astrid, and Edilio are selected as leaders for Perdido beach in California while Caine takes over Coates Academy, which is in the east. There is no escaping Perdido beach, because there is a wall that stretches out as far as the eye can see and burns when you touch it. It is also a sphere. You can’t go over, under, through, or around it.

I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars because it was very exiting, but there was cursing in it.

Flush!

Flush

By: Carl Hiaasen

This book is absolutely ingenious! The story of a young boy who cares about something dearly is a classic, but this clearly stands out from many of the others.  Flush is an absolute page turner; you never know what is going to happen next. I would rate it as a 5 out of a possible 5. The whole time that I was reading the book, I had no intentions of putting it down and starting another one. It is about a boy who lives near a lake and constantly goes swimming and boat riding in it. Then he hears that is contaminated by a casino boat that goes on the lake every night. He makes efforts to show people that the rumors are true. Will he succeed? Carl Hiaasen is famous for many books. Some that you may have heard of are Hoot and Scat.  Please read this book because it is almost guaranteed that you will love it.

The Diary of Anne Frank

May26

The diary of Anne Frank is a true, compelling story about a girl during World War 2 who was forced to live a secret life. Anne and her family had to live in another person’s house, but behind their wall! She was very lonely, despite being with her family, and had to keep her feelings to herself until her Dad gave her a diary. This story is her story, about life in a wall (literally), having to escape the terrifying truth about life and death, and to learn that the sun will come up every day. I think that this book is very intriguing because it has a sweet girl full of hope and faith with the terrible tragedy that she must await. One thing I find very interesting is that her diary was probably written in German so when they found it, they must have had to translate it. You will also read this book next year in 6th grade.

The Prophet of Yonwood

This book is really interesting because of the mystery that goes through the whole book. This book takes place in a small town named Yonwood. The president keeps on telling the people of the United States that something is going to happen… F-16’s keep on flying over the little town and people start panicking after they find out that war is going to happen. This book is the prequel of ‘The City of Ember’. I’d recommend you to read it if you want to see what happened before Ember was created.

The ‘Unshushables’ remind me of certain 5th graders that might be in my room right now… (I’m looking at you, ENTIRE 5th GRADE! 🙂 ). This is my favorite book by Andrew Clements, although I’ve also loved a lot of his other books. What is your favorite Andrew Clements book?

39 Clues

May24

One great series that I am enjoying right now is the 39 Clues series. Each book is by a different author, and I think the books are funny, adventurous, and suspenseful. Every time I finish a book, I want to read another! I also like these books because Amy and Dan, the main characters, visit places that we study in 5th grade history, like the tombs in Egypt and the terra cotta warriors in China. Does anyone else like these books? Why? 🙂
